On Friday, July 14, two Israeli police officers were shot and killed in Jerusalem’s Old City around 7:00 a.m. local time. According to Micky Rosenfeld, the Israeli police spokesman, the three armed attackers who killed the officers are dead.
Rosenfeld stated that the assailants were Israeli Arabs from Umm al-Fahm, located in northern Israel, and were identified as terrorists. The weapons obtained by the assailants include a knife, pistol, and a homemade automatic firearm.
The deadly encounter took place in the plaza area of the Noble Sanctuary or Temple Mount. Currently, the area is closed for security and official assessments.
Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian Authority President, stated in a phone call with the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, his “rejection” and “condemnation” of the attack.
