4.2 Million Youth Homeless and Unaccompanied

4.2 million young Americans are homeless each year. They are alone, living on the streets, in a car or in a park, and do not have an adult with them. A recent University of Chicago study found that one out of 30 youth between 13 and 17 are homeless. For young adults 18 to 25, one in ten became homeless during a given year. Many, but not all, quit school. New York has 110,000 students without a home. That is twice as many people from a decade ago. Texas has 113,000 young homeless, with nearly 17,000 without an adult. Schools can be the frontline for identifying and supporting homeless youth
