In 2015, India made a pledge at the Climate Change Summit in Paris to increase their nation’s forest cover by 235 million acres. They plan to accomplish this goal by 2030. The government has set aside $6.2 billion to plant trees all over India.
A recent study showed that air pollution is causing over 500,000 deaths every year. They are aware this new green initiative won’t fix all pollution problems, but are confident they are taking a step in the right direction and hope to motivate others to get involved.
The state was hoping to make it into the Guinness World Record by planting 50 million trees in 1 day! Although they came up short, there is still a possibility they set a new record. They are still waiting to get the official word.
Regardless, this project is going to make a huge difference for our environment and I hope it inspires others to follow their lead!
