Deadly Stabbing at the University of Texas

On May 1st, a stabbing occurred at the University of Texas on the Austin campus. The stabber killed 19-year-old student Harrison Brown and injured three other people.

The stabber was identified as 21-year-old Kendrex J. White. He used a Bowie hunting knife. This incident ignited shock across campus. Many students spoke highly of White and would never expect this action from him. Lisa Guerra, a deaf employee of the campus has commented on this tragic event. Take a look.

Lisa Guerra:

“I work at the University of Texas, on campus.  What happened today was very shocking and heartbreaking.  Many of us are still processing this. I walk through that area everyday as I arrive and leave on campus, so it was surreal to see this happen.  We also have concerns due to the emergency response system that UT has in place.  It's supposed to alert us immediately but today we didn't get any alerts until 30 minutes after the incident. This is concerning to us.”

As of May 2nd, the motive behind the stabbing remains unknown. Authorities are currently investigating the scene, as well as White’s mental health history.
