Deaf and Autistic Man Dressed as Superman Attacked
Favorite

On Thursday July 6th, Rae Pitt, a deaf and autistic man who was dressed as a superhero, was beaten up in Florida.

Throughout the community, Rae is known as the “Minneola Superhero” because of his Superman suit. He waves at people and cars every day at the corner of U.S. 27 and Washington Street. He is known to be friendly and is well liked by the community.

A 26-year-old man named Tyler McCorvey pretended to be deaf and approached Rae. McCorvey punched Rae in the chest and then slammed Rae’s head against a car. A nearby witness stopped the beating, causing McCorvey to flee. Police later arrested him while he was running with a garbage can over his head. He also denied assaulting Rae.

People poured out support for Rae and held a meet-and-greet rally to take pictures with him. Despite the fact that the attack happened, Rae returned to the same intersection to resume his daily activity.
