Deaf Gay Man Shot and Killed in Fresno

On Wednesday, May 17th, Imer Alvarado, a deaf gay man dressed in drag, was shot and killed by another man in Central Fresno, California. The shooting occurred around 3 in the morning. The victim was identified as transgender by the police, but Alvarado’s friends say that he identified as a gay man.

The shooting was captured with surveillance footage. The video showed that Alvarado was running away from the shooter who fired the gun multiple times. The police may determine this as a hate crime.

Members of the LGBTQ community grieved over Alvarado’s passing and came together to hold a candlelight vigil. As of now, the police are searching for the male shooter who is still on the loose.
