Dog Meat Festival in China Canceled

Did you know that dogs are killed for meat for a festival every year in Yulin, China? Many dogs are collected and put in cramped cages where they are starved and beaten to death. This is known as a Chinese tradition that dates back 500 years. The tradition also believes that eating dog meat brings good luck and health. The festival garnered attention from the world and people were not supportive.

Animal rights activists fought hard for a long time to stop the slaughter. They made claims that dogs with collars and tags are collected to be killed. There was a petition with 11 million signatures to stop the event. The fight caused the June 15th event to be canceled. As of now, animal rights activists are celebrating their victory and they want to find a way to cancel it permanently. That fight is still ongoing.
