Food is considered a “natural reward”. Things like eating, intimacy, and nurturing others are pleasurable to the brain which makes you want to repeat these behaviors later.
Today, it’s almost impossible to avoid added sugars. A lot of us have become hooked without realizing how much added sugar we’re actually consuming. Just like nicotine, cocaine, and heroin, sugar hijacks the brain’s reward pathway and makes us dependent on it.
So how long will it take to detox from sugar? Everyone is unique. It won’t be easy, but it’s certainly possible and would make us a lot healthier.
