Fox Loses 50 Percent of O'Reilly's Advertisers

Two weeks ago the New York Times reported that Fox News paid $13 million to settle several sexual harassment lawsuits against Bill O’Reilly, the host of The O’Reilly Factor.

Several female employees of Fox alleged that O’Reilly, Fox’s top star, had sexually harassed them. So what happened? Half of the show’s advertisers dropped plans to advertise their products on O’Reilly’s show because these companies are afraid the advertisements will hurt their sales.

Before the story broke, approximately 30 advertisements had been sold a month in advance, but after the Times reported the lawsuits, the number of advertisements dropped down to nine ads. Fox has hired a private law firm to investigate Bill O’Reilly’s behavior, and O’Reilly is now “on vacation.” Whether or not he returns is a big question.
