Do your Christmas lights tend to go missing? Well, a woman in Seattle, Washington recently got quite a surprise.
A thief stealing Christmas light bulbs was targeting a woman’s home, so she set up a video camera. Reviewing the camera, the woman was shocked to see the thief was actually a small squirrel!
So, you may ask, why are squirrels stealing festive holiday lights? No, the squirrel is not stocking up on Christmas lights to make his nest a little more festive. What’s happening is the squirrel thinks the bulbs are food. The bulb mimics what acorns or fruit look like, and squirrels tend to be confused.
Sadly, squirrels could get electrocuted in the process of stealing lights. But what happens when squirrels find out that the bulbs aren’t food? John Koprowski, an expert on squirrels, says they tend to over-stock for the winter and will not starve. Let’s hope the squirrel thief in Seattle does not come back to steal more lights!
