Gallaudet Wins Helmet Bowl

Yesterday, Gallaudet University beat San Diego State University in the 1st annual Helmet Bowl National Championship...wait...what is that?

The Helmet Bowl is a nation-wide competition where more than 700 college football teams are vying for the best designed helmet. They must be visually creative and embody true fighting spirit. Over 10 weeks fans voted once per day on which helmet they thought met the criteria.

The journey was challenging for Gallaudet. In the final day, they were behind by more than 1,000 votes and had only hours left until voting closed. Thanks to a strong support base on social media, Gallaudet blew by SDSU and won with 17,657 votes compared to 15,521 for SDSU.

Gallaudet will get a Helmet Bowl national championship trophy and a banner to display in their Field House later this spring.

Gallaudet Athletic Director Michael Weinstock said that “We owe our gratitude to the Gallaudet University community, alumni, friends and supporters because without them this would not have been possible. We are proud to win the first Helmet Bowl national championship!”

From all of us here at DTV News, congratulations Gallaudet!
