There’s some good news for the giant pandas out there.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature has changed the status of the giant panda to “vulnerable” on the Red List of Threatened Species.
Due to China’s efforts to conserve the country’s national symbol, the giant panda population has risen by 17%. The World Wildlife Fund praised China for its efforts. As of now, 1,864 pandas have been counted. 2,060 if you also count the cubs. The IUCN did say that due to the availability of bamboo decreasing, the pandas could become stressed. The decrease in availability is due to climate change. If the pattern continues, almost ⅓, or 35%, of the bamboo habitat may disappear in the next 80 years.
