Hep C Medicine Cuts Costs
Favorite

People with Hepatitis C, a viral liver infection, now have a new drug option. Mavyret is cheaper and cures the disease quicker. The previous medication, released in 2014, cost as much as $95,000 and took 12 weeks to cure Hep C, while Mavyret costs just over $26,000 and takes 8 weeks.

The high cost of the previous drug limited access to treatment, with some drug companies requiring the disease to be advanced. Other companies required patients to be drug and alcohol free for six months before being eligible. Now there is hope for Hep C patients.
