Hollywood Mogul Fired
Favorite

Last Thursday, New York Times magazine released a report of their investigation on Harvey Weinstein, a powerful Hollywood mogul and major donor for the Democratic party.

The report showed that, for almost thirty years, he was paying off actresses in exchange for them not filing lawsuits revealing he had sexually harassed them. He ran several companies including the Miramax and The Weinstein Company (TWC) which produce Hollywood movies. From 1990 to as recently as last year, he reached at least 8 settlements with multiple former employees. Weinstein has since publicly apologized for some of his actions, but still denies many other accusations.

Public backlash is growing. Weinstein’s lawyer, Lisa Bloom, has since resigned. Soon after, Weinstein was fired from TWC for violating their code of conduct. Also, several other directors have resigned.

The political organization will give Weinstein’s donated money back. Many organizations tied to the Democratic party advocate Women’s Rights and are pushing politicians to publicly condemn Weinstein’s actions.
