A new report has revealed that between 1945 and the early 1990's, hundreds of young boys from the Regensburger Domspatzen choir in Germany were subjected to physical and sexual abuse. The victims included children attending both the pre-school and high school.
According to Ulrich Weber, the lawyer responsible for investigating the abuse, the investigation has found 500 cases of physical abuse and 67 instances of sexual abuse.
According to the report, 49 members of the Catholic Church are accused of carrying out the abuse, 9 of which were found to have been involved in sexual abuse. Georg Ratzinger, the older brother to retired Pope Benedict XVI (16), was the former choirmaster from 1964-1994, and denies any knowledge of what went on.
It's unlikely the alleged perpetrators will face any criminal charges because of the amount of time that has passed between then and now.
