Today, August 10th, authorities in London arrested a man on suspicion of pushing a 33-year old woman into the path of an oncoming bus while jogging on Putney bridge across River Thames. The incident happened on May 5th around 7:40am. He is charged with causing grievous bodily harm. He has been questioned and released from a south London police station.
Why is this news relevant now? Earlier this week, police released a surveillance video that was widely shared online. Take a look:
Notice the woman falling backwards onto the street while a bus is coming. Her head is right in front on the bus’ left tire. The bus immediately swerved to avoid her and then stopped so passengers could help. Thankfully, she had only minor injuries.
Even more surprising, the male jogger came back 15 minutes later. The woman walked up to the man, but was ignored. Police questioned him at that time and let him go. They found the video later and were able to press charges against him.
Sergeant Mat Knowles applauded the bus driver for his quick instincts in avoiding hitting and injuring the woman.
