Matt Lauer has worked for NBC News for over 20 years, and was co-host of the "Today" show. This morning, the network announced Lauer was fired for inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace.
NBC explained they received a detailed complaint from a female colleague Monday night. The network addressed the complaint immediately, and after review, concluded it was a clear violation of their company's standards. And although it was the only complaint against Lauer in over 20 years, NBC believes other incidents may have occurred, but were not reported.
NBC's quick decision to fire Lauer is rare. Other recent firings of public figures resulted only after allegations went public. Ari Wilkenfeld, the civil rights lawyer representing the colleague who reported Lauer, says NBC responded like all companies should, and says she's encouraged by their quick response.
