You've probably been noticing the hashtag #MeAt14 on social media. This movement is in response to the recent allegations against Roy Moore, who's running for a seat in the U.S. Senate in Alabama. Moore has been accused of pursuing a 14-year-old girl when he was 32. Moore continues to deny these allegations.
The first person to tweet this hashtag was North Carolina Lawyer, Catherine R.L. Lawson. Her goal was to show that a 14-year-old cannot consent to a relationship with an adult. She stated, "It's not a question about the legal age of consent, but about affirming a shared social value that children deserve our protection." Since her tweet, the hashtag has been used over 50,000 times.
