Miosotis Familia, a New York City police officer, was shot to death early this morning, Wednesday, July 5th around 12:30am.
Her shift was almost over when a man walked up to the patrol car she was in and fired one round of bullets through the passenger side window. Familia was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately did not survive.
Officers responded quickly to the call for help. They found the shooter just one block away and identified him as 34-year-old Alexander Bonds. As they confronted Bonds, he pulled out his gun and police shot and killed him.
A bystander on the street was struck by a bullet, but survived and is in stable condition. Police Commissioner James O'Neil is calling this tragedy an assassination. The investigation into this attack is ongoing.
