Police, hospitals, data centers and shopping malls use an egg-shaped robot for security purposes. The robot is 5 feet tall, weighs 300 pounds, and travels up to 3 miles per hour.
But one of them had an accident in a retail and office complex in Washington, D.C., tumbling down the stairs into a fountain and drowning.
Photos of the accident quickly went viral on the Internet with funny captions like, "We were promised flying cars, instead we got suicidal robots," and "It's a stressful job, we've all been there."
Knightscope, the maker of the robot, also joined in the fun with tweets like, "Just wanted to enjoy summer." The company replaced the robot for free and said they are investigating what happened.
