Cardinal George Pell, a senior adviser to Pope Francis, is taking a leave from the Vatican to fight accusations of sexual assault in his home country of Australia. Pell is now the highest ranking Vatican official to face criminal charges of sexual assault.
Right now, Australian police are not releasing information about the victims. However they did say there are multiple charges and multiple complaints against him.
This morning, Thursday, June 29th, Pell held a news conference in Rome denying the accusations, and says he's looks forward to clearing his name in court. He is required to appear in the Melbourne Magistrate's court on July 18th.
