On Monday, February 27th, Elon Musk, the founder of “SpaceX”, announced two private citizens will be taking a trip around the moon in 2018.
The names of the two travelers and how much they’re paying for the adventure has not been released, but they are likely paying millions of dollars. And according to Musk they have already put down a significant deposit for the trip and are undergoing fitness tests to make sure they’re healthy enough for training later this year.
For the mission, they will be using the “Falcon Heavy” rocket and the “Crew Dragon” spacecraft, both of which have never been flown before. The rocket is expected to make a test flight this summer and the spacecraft will complete a demo mission later this year.
SpaceX anticipates that other citizens will also be interested in this private adventure in the future.
