What do you do when a work e-mail pops up on your phone after business hours? Now, France is allowing workers to ignore those emails until the next day.
On Sunday, a new labor law passed, giving French employees the "right to disconnect" from their work email. The Ministry of Labor set up the measures to ensure respect for resting periods, and a balance between work, family, and personal life.
Before the law was passed, various French companies already put rules in place to stop employees from using their work devices after hours. Some firms even completely shut down their email systems overnight.
The law gained criticism from business workers, who worry that French workers would get left behind by competitors in other countries -where such restrictions did not exist.
The country decided a work life balance is ultimately more important for employee's health.
