Television as we know it is now becoming more inclusive.
PBS’ Sesame Street is introducing Julia, a 4-year-old puppet with autism. She has short, orange hair and loves her toy rabbit.
If you’re a fan of Sesame Street in all forms, you may have noticed her before in the books. Julia became so popular with families reading the books that it was decided to put her into the show. Her debut episode will give viewers a glimpse into her life as a girl with autism.
If you’re excited to see Julia in Sesame Street, she will make her first appearance in April.
However, Julia and other characters like Big Bird may have some worries about President Donald Trump, as his proposed budget cuts include PBS and other networks, which could affect Sesame Street’s programming. If the budget goes through, networks would lose $485 million in funding. This is bad news for the network, as they heavily rely on government funding.
Would you be sad to see PBS go? Are you a fan of Sesame Street and excited for the newest addition?
