Times Square Driver Charged with Murder

Yesterday, Thursday May 18th, a car crash occurred in New York City’s Times Square. The driver was 26-year-old Richard Rojas. After the crash, Rojas exited the car and ran until police caught him. Once arrested, he told police “you were supposed to shoot me!”

 

Rojas claimed he was hearing voices at the time of the crash. Tests revealed that he had synthetic marijuana in his system, otherwise known as “K2”.

 

There was one fatality in this incident and 22 injuries. 18-year-old Alyssa Elsman was was killed and her 13-year-old sister was injured. Both teenagers were from Michigan on a family vacation.

 

Rojas has been charged with 2nd degree murder, 20 counts of attempted murder, and 5 counts of aggravated vehicular homicide. He is scheduled to appear in court today, Friday May 19th.
