Toyota and Mazda, two Japanese automakers, announced a plan to spend $1.6 billion to build a joint manufacturing plant in the United States. This partnership is expected to create up to 4,000 new jobs.
Toyota will manufacture Corollas, and Mazda will manufacture crossover models.
Both of these organizations are planning to introduce their models to the North American market after operations begin in 2021 and have agreed to split the cost of the plant.
Toyota and Mazda are also planning to work together on new advanced auto technologies, such as connected cars, electric vehicles, and new safety features for cars.
President Trump tweeted about this news, stating the partnership is “a great investment in American manufacturing!” It’s still unclear as to where the plant will be built in the United States.
