Trump Fires F.B.I. Director James Comey

On Tuesday, May 9th, President Trump abruptly fired F.B.I. Director James Comey. Comey was responsible for leading the investigation into whether or not members of the Trump campaign worked with Russia to hack the 2016 U.S. presidential election in Trump’s favor.

Many people have noticed similarities to the 1972 Watergate Scandal. President Nixon refused to release recordings of White House conversations. Instead, he ordered the firing of special prosecutor Archibald Cox.

Several democrats and republicans are outraged over Comey being fired, and are requesting a special counsel be established to investigate the Russian hacking. Deputy Director Andrew McCabe will be serving as F.B.I. Director while Trump is deciding who will replace Comey.
