The governor of Florida continues to emphasize that if residents are ordered to evacuate, they should not wait to do so. Hurricane Irma’s pathway is predicted to pass over south Florida and continue up the east coast. The state of Georgia is the latest to declare a state of emergency, along with Florida and South Carolina.
State of emergencies allow immediate access to funding for repair and rescue efforts. However, federal funding is starting to become scarce. FEMA is struggling with a limited financial supply due to Harvey. The damage in Texas set records, and FEMA had to use over half of their funding to help the victims.
