Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is currently completing an Asia tour that started in Japan and will end in China. During his visit to South Korea, he stated that the U.S. would take preemptive military action against North Korea if their weapon’s program reached a level requiring action.
Over the past few years, North Korea has conducted nuclear and missile tests. They will soon be testing long-range missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads to the U.S.
Tillerson also stated that the U.S. is exploring a range of new diplomatic and economic measures and defended the U.S.’s decision to deploy a missile system to South Korea.
China strongly opposes that decision. The U.S. says the system is aimed at North Korea, but China is concerned it’s allowing America to spy on their territory. Regardless, the U.S. says it’s necessary to defend against North Korea.
Tillerson will be visiting Beijing next hoping China will help, but in the past, President Trump has referred to China as “the enemy”.
