Victim’s Mother Suing Michelle Carter for $4.2M
Favorite

On Thursday, August 3rd, Michelle Carter was sentenced to 15 months in prison for encouraging her boyfriend to commit suicide. She is currently still free on supervised release while her lawyers appeal the judge's verdict.

Conrad Roy III killed himself on July 12th, 2014 by inhaling carbon monoxide in his pickup truck. His mother, Lynn Roy, is now suing Carter for $4.2 million. According to her lawyer, the family isn't looking to profit from the lawsuit, but rather establish a memorial for Conrad.

Lynn is also urging the state of Massachusetts to establish a law making it a crime to coerce someone into committing suicide. This law already exists in about 40 other states.
